Post-Installation
Managing spam message
A feature that this plugin has is that it allows you to view the marked spam messages through:
Admin -> Tools -> Akismet
You can view spam messages and determine if Akismet marked the wrong messages as spam or not. If you choose to "Confirm Spam" the spam message will leave the queue and be in the prune cycle. If you choose "Unmark Spam", it will place the comment back to where it should have been and removes it from the queue.
The Prune Cycle
This plugin will delete spam messages that are left in queue after a set amount of time. You can set the limit in which the messages will be delete through:
Admin -> Plugins -> Akismet -> Configurations
FAQ
Q: What happens if my API key doesn't work or isn't installed correctly ?
A: Akismet will not catch spam posts but no error will appear when you post comments.
Q: Why install Extended Comments ?
A: Installing Extended Comments allows guests to post, which makes great use of Akismet and basically the main purpose of this plugin.
Q: What happens to posts that get marked as spam ?
A: Well, if Akismet catches them, it will store them in your database still, but just mark and you can choose to view the message and determine if the message was wrongly marked or not. If the spam messages sit in Queue for a selected period time, they will get deleted. This can be set in the Akismet plugin configuration menu where you entered your API Key.
